March is a Lion or Lamb…

Lets hope for a little piece of “normal” this month…

Math

There are four units of Math til the end of the year.
We will be focusing on mapping and coordinate grids in the next unit and it is culminating in a task where students are to design a geocaching adventure across the school and the yard.  They were to develop a theme to their adventure and construct the cache to be found at one of the stops.
The following unit in Math continues our discussion of financial literacy.  We will plan a holiday to Great Wolf Lodge and also plan our purchases to start Grade 5 or 6.

Language

We are working through our chapter work on Camp X and Bunnicula.  Some students will work on the follow-up activities by “interviewing” one of the main characters and then some may work on an Independent Project.  What they are working on all depends on how detailed their work is and how effectively they have used their time.

Social Studies

The Grade 5’s are examining the living conditions the very first immigrant faced as they moving to New France in the 1700’s.  Students could not believe the living conditions including the age of girls getting married!!!
Grade 4’s have started a look at Medieval Times.

Science

We are finishing up Structures with construction and testing of the egg protectors and then the demolition of our straw towers.  The hall display of the “selling” our projects at Toys ‘r Us was a Media project where we imagine our Egg Dropper being sold.  What makes something enticing to be bought off the shelf?  Very creative ideas!
We finish the year with constructing our Tiny Houses.  Lets hope we get to have our “Open House”!!! and the Grade 4’s will finish Light/Sound.  They will start constructing their castles.

The Arts

We have several visual art projects to work on.  Results will be hung in the windows or on our walls.  Well done!

Gym

Students will enjoy floor hockey for the month of March.  We will start the playoffs once the regular season is complete and play for the “Portable Cup”.
